2010 Chinese New Year at the Domes
To provide the general public an opportunity and environment to enjoy
celebration of the Chinese New Year. Through this yearly event, we aim to increase
public awareness of the Domes, the Chinese culture, and ethnic
diversity in the greater Milwaukee area.

Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes)
Event location and address: The Domes, 524 S. Layton Blvd, Milwaukee, WI 53215
Event Schedule: 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010
Event outline:
- Decoration– the Domes will be decorated with lanterns,
ribbons, calligraphic greetings, art and crafts that reflect Chinese tradition.
The Tropical Dome will feature holiday lights and lanterns (so long as they are
compatible with the Dome plants and environment);
- The Floral Show Dome and the Education Center will
showcase Chinese New Year culture through exhibitions, show-and-tell, and some
hands-on experiences (especially for children) such as dumpling making – a must
have item for Chinese New Year;
- The Arid Dome, filled with live traditional Chinese
folk music, will feature Chinese art, crafts, and calligraphy;
- Educational seminars will be held at the Educational
Center through slide shows to share tales and traditions about Chinese New
Year;
- Feature performances will be staged in the hallways
throughout the day for visitors;
- Booths or tables will also be set up in the hallways to
provide visitors an opportunity to shop for Chinese traditional goods,
especially for the occasion of Chinese New Year;
- Authentic Chinese treats, including traditional
dietetic customs for New Year celebration, will be available for purchase.
Ticket info:
$6.50 for adult; $5.00 for youth (age 6 –17)
$5.00 for Milwaukee County
Senior W/ID; Free for children at 5 and
under
